Antica
Gulinelli.
struttura a pianta quadrata.
spettacoli estivi promossi dall'Amministrazione provinciale e dai Comuni
" Delizie d'Estate".

Ancient "delizia
estense", proudly commissioned by the duke Borso d'Este and designed by
architect Pietro Benvenuto degli Ordini, the delight had to be a
sumptuous residence to be given to the faithful secretary of the Duke,
Teofilo Calcagnini.
The Calcagnini family
retained the ownership of the grandiose villa for the entire period of
the Este's domination, also putting the building at the disposal of the
nobles of the Academy of the Filaretis, who went there to carry out
their summer meetings, sometimes cheering them up.
In 1481 the beautiful wife of Ludovico il Moro also stayed at Benvignante, as well as daughter of Ercole I, Beatrice d'Este. With
the fall of the Este also the delight fell into misfortune, passing
from hand to hand until '800 when it was purchased by Count Luigi
Gulinelli.The
Gulinelli family had it equipped with marvelous stables to breed
racehorses and also modified the original aspect of the ancient delight,
raising the wings of delight and making the tower more squat, giving
the building a square-shaped structure.
It remained so
until the Second World War when with the bombings that struck the entire
Argenta area in 1944, they again turned the profile of the delight.
Today
Benvignante is presented with a rectangular plan, as originally
intended in the Benvenuto degli Ordini project, on two floors with large
rectangular windows, symmetrically distributed on the façade; above the round-arched brick arch in the center of the tower, you can see the emblem of the Gulinelli family.
The
position of this residence, which allows to dominate the surrounding
land, with its mighty central crenellated tower, must have been designed
not only as a place of rest and recreation, but also with control
functions, rather than defensive for the Argen territory.
For the inhabitants of the territory this delight is affectionately called "Al Turòn".
The
complex can not be visited but is surrounded by four hectares of land
used as a park, restored after the war with trees and path leading to
the villa but especially with an important intervention in recent years,
where the dominant elements are the lawn, the water, the geometry of the avenues and the rows of trees.A
driveway in the middle of a double row of young cherry trees starts
from the inner courtyard and crosses a wooden pier on an oval pond and
then joins the avenue that embraces the entire garden, accompanied by a
row of lime trees.In
the meadow, dominant in the entire complex of the park, stand out four
poplars that mark the beginning and end of the central driveway, there
are also examples of alder, willow, cypress swamp. The
presence of the pond wants to evoke the waters, dominating the
territory, in the past, and especially in the Renaissance, as the
delight could be reached right through the waterways, around there were
few houses, the dense forest, which procured rich booties of wild game. The same name at the time "well-being", alluded to the welcome of the traveler, of the traveler in this land. Since
1990 the Delizia has been taken over by the Municipality of Argenta and
is part of the patrimony of the Argenta Ecomuseum, and is taken care of
by the local association "Il Torrione della Delizia di Benvignante".The
large park is in fact used for cultural activities and festivals, as
included in the program of summer shows promoted by the provincial
administration and the Municipalities "Delizie d'Estate".The facing stables and the tobacco dryer are instead privately owned. In the year 2000, the Ferrara Delights, including also Benvignante, were declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site.Currently,
through the Community Maps project, the Municipality of Argenta and the
Province of Ferrara, with the participation of the community and local
associations, are defining a project to consolidate the historical
structure in order to make it accessible also internally with the aim of
revitalizing the ancient rural village and insert it in the circuit of Delizie Estensi.
